SeerSonar review: know when ChatGPT answers moved under you

ChatGPT can rewrite the same buyer question three days later and move who gets cited. Seer Interactive launched SeerSonar on October 13, 2026 to track that movement the way MozCast tracks Google—here is who it is for and what it still cannot tell you.

Verdict: SeerSonar is worth bookmarking if you care about brand visibility inside ChatGPT answers and need a shared, fixed-prompt reading of how much those answers move week to week. It covers 625 buyer-style prompts across five industries, ChatGPT only, with a 0–100 volatility score weighted toward citation changes. It is not a substitute for your own prompt set, your own geo/account variance, or a full AI visibility program across models.

Who SeerSonar is for

If your weekly reporting still treats ChatGPT as a static FAQ, you are already behind how the answers behave. Seer Interactive launched SeerSonar on October 13, 2026 as a public volatility tracker for AI visibility: a fixed set of buyer-style prompts re-run in ChatGPT so movement shows up in data before it shows up as a surprise in a client deck.

It is aimed at marketers and agencies who already think in MozCast terms for Google and now need an equivalent instrument for AI answers. Brand teams that report "are we cited in AI answers?" without a weather reading will keep arguing about anecdotes. SeerSonar gives them a shared number and drill-downs instead of a screenshot from someone else's laptop.

If you do not sell into Technology, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Finance & Insurance, Real Estate & Hospitality, or Industrial & Manufacturing—or you only care about Gemini and Perplexity—this first version is a category lesson, not your dashboard. Treat every capability claim as published by Seer until you verify against your own brands and geographies.

What it actually measures

As published, Seer runs 625 fixed buyer-style prompts in ChatGPT roughly every three days. The set has been stable since January 2026 so this week can be compared to last month on equal terms. The public materials cite more than 50,000 responses in the dataset—enough history to make a "typical week" baseline meaningful rather than a one-off parlor trick.

The headline reading is a 0–100 volatility score for how much ChatGPT's answers moved between back-to-back runs of the same prompt, measured against a typical week in the first half of 2026. Seer weights the blend toward the signals that carry business movement: cited sources about 50%, structural and formatting about 35%, wording about 15%. Citation volatility is who wins and loses visibility. Structural jumps—tables, lists, headings appearing or disappearing—flag genuine answer-shape changes. Content and wording sit at a low weight because ChatGPT rewrites heavily even when the substance is flat; Seer normalizes that so flat rewrites cannot dominate the reading.

Alongside the score, SeerSonar surfaces response-element trends (how often tables, lists, bold text, and prices appear—the "SERP features" of AI answers), citation rate over time, and cited domains filterable by industry with each domain's citation share over time. Dashed release markers on charts are context for what may have moved, not proof of cause. Grey bands mark thin collection weeks, not necessarily calm weeks. A week's published number is meant to stay fixed once posted, so you are not chasing a moving historical revision.

A calm week on SeerSonar does not mean your brand's answers stood still. The instrument reads a fixed panel. Your category, your prompts, and your account may move when the panel is quiet.

How the work moves

Read SeerSonar before you brief a client

  1. Check the week score

Is the panel calm, elevated, or extreme versus the H1 2026 baseline?

  2. Open the breakdown

Did citations, structure, or wording drive the move?

  3. Scan cited domains

Who gained or lost share inside the industries you care about?

  4. Compare your prompts

Re-run a small fixed set of your own buyer questions the same day.

  5. Decide the story

Weather report vs brand-specific action—do not conflate them.

Pricing and access

SeerSonar is published as a public resource from Seer Interactive, not as a self-serve SaaS SKU with a list price on the launch pages fetched October 14, 2026. Expect agency packaging: Seer says its teams will use the readings in reporting and research and flag ChatGPT shifts that may affect visibility. Findings are also slated for the Seer Newsletter.

Do not budget a line item from a blog post. Ask what access, export, alert cadence, and client-brand drill-downs look like if you are not already a Seer client. Ask whether you can bring your own prompt subset into the same methodology or only consume the public panel. Those commercial details decide whether this is a free weather widget or a paid operating instrument.

Where it falls short

ChatGPT only. The first version does not claim to cover other answer engines. Multi-model teams still need separate instrumentation, and buyers who jump between ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity will see only one weather map.

Fixed 625 prompts and five industries. That is a feature for comparability and a limit for niche catalogs, local services, regulated verticals outside the panel, and B2B SKUs with weird buyer language. Cited-domain views are scoped to those prompts—not a census of an entire industry. Seer's own product copy says as much; believe it.

It will not tell you why your brand dropped without more work. Training data, product pages, competitor PR, and model behavior can all move citations. SeerSonar answers "how much did the panel move, and who moved inside it?"—not "which CMS change fixed us." Pair it with content changelogs and a short list of owned prompts you re-run on the same schedule.

Public third-party validation was thin on launch day; most detail is Seer's own documentation. Plan to cross-check a handful of your own prompts against the public reading before you put the score in a board slide. Also decide who owns the reading inside your team—SEO, content, or demand gen—so a spike does not become an orphan Slack thread.

How it compares, and the verdict

Versus raw ChatGPT chats: chats are anecdotes; SeerSonar is a repeated panel with a published methodology. Versus Google MozCast-style tools: same job (is the SERP or answer weather moving?), different substrate. Versus building your own tracker: you keep full control of prompts and models, at the cost of collection, scoring, and baseline design. Versus AI-visibility SaaS that scores "your brand mentioned": those products optimize for competitive share; SeerSonar optimizes for panel volatility and citation structure. You may want both.

Alternatives if SeerSonar is a mismatch: a private prompt panel on a three-day cadence; vendor AI-visibility suites that score your brand mentions across engines; or a narrow internal job that only watches citation domains you already care about and alerts when share moves more than a threshold you chose.

Verdict (as of October 14, 2026): Bookmark and use as a shared weather report if ChatGPT visibility is already a reporting line. Do not treat it as proof that your pages are safe. Pair it with your own fixed prompts, a named owner of AI-answer monitoring, and the same honesty you would bring to any MozCast analog—context, not cause. If your buyers live outside the five industries or outside ChatGPT, take the methodology and build the panel yourself.
